Wadz's blog has been renamed!

Hey peeps!

As many of you will know, Wadz has a blog where she writes reviews of films, but now it has a new URL. Here it is:

I strongly recommend you go and check it out. If you want blunt and to-the-point opinions on things, Wadz's blog is the place for you.

Quote Week: October - Day 1

"How come uniform is no longer uniform...?"
- H.W.

Story behind quote:
With not 1, not 2, but 3 different acceptable uniforms at the Academy these days, Wicks picks up on the fact that uniform just isn't what it says it is on the tin anymore.

What you've been waiting for...

...October Quote Week officially starts tomorrow!

Weekly News Round-Up #34: 22/09/2013

Hello! How's it going? I hope you've all had a delightful week, I must admit that I've had a relatively quiet one, but let's crack on...

The beginning of the week was rather chilly, in my opinion, but Wicks insisted on staying outside at break time. Lunchtime proved to be too much as everyone voted 'inside'.
Lunch was a quiet affair until a wasp decided to pop in through an open window (there's probably more news about wasps this week than there is about people).
But, putting that aside, ANT became the Salad Oracle. Amazingly, she was able to predict what time it was just be looking at the box of salad! However, she denies possessing such powers (I'm sure she'll come to terms with it sooner or later).
Also, Ruby told a great story concerning yogurt. It happened that she had a pot of yogurt with a spoon in it, however, when she lifted her iPod from the table, the magnet from the iPod case attached itself to the spoon. This caused an extraordinary chain of events, where the spoon was flung out of the pot and, consequently, yogurt was spilt.
And, to top off our lunch break, ANT decided that Master needed more app homework in the form of getting to level 10 on Candy Crush.

Speaking of apps, I hope you're all enjoying What's App-ening Wednesday! We've got a great review from ANT this week, so look forward to that :)

Time skip to Wednesday afternoon, we had a wonderfully hot and stuffy enrichment fair. There were some lovely clubs, such as fake flower-making, debate club, a range of sports, and even one for blogging. In the end, we went for badminton. Tune in next week when there's bound to be badminton drama of some sort ;p

After the fair, we had a bunch of spare time on our hands, which we spent on playing more Candy Crush. There's was even time near the end of the day for a flash game of Squares, where we had DisneyLoverMolly vs. ConscienceSarah and ANT vs. Master. For the latter duo, it was as if Christmas had come early ;p They started off on the standard 10x10 grid, but quickly realised there wasn't enough time, so they had two matches, one on a 3x3, where ANT won, and the other on a 4x4, where Master won. As always, ANT is correct when she says 'it's all fun and games until the final few lines'. Still as competitive as ever, bring on badminton...

On Friday, we found out what we'd be doing for the Academy's All-round Fun-day, which will be taking place on Thursday. Most of us got what we applied for, however that wasn't the case for ANT, who will be a team coordinator for the year 8's. Now, if you know ANT, you'll know that she isn't particularly keen on leadership or year 8's. We'll see how she gets on...

Seriously, there's so much to look forward to this week!

We've had so much trouble with wasps this week I thought it would only be fair that we dedicate a paragraph to the lil' buggers. These wasps have been hanging around us so much that we've made games out of them. Here are a few: Dodge the Wasp (self-explanatory), Capture the Wasp (mainly played by ArwaChihuahua, where she attempts to trap the wasp in a polystyrene lunch box) and Wasp Statues (where we substitute the music, in Musical Statues, for wasps).

After that wonderful week, Wadz, ArwaChihuahua, ANT and Master were walking home when a new idea was born. Wadz predicted that ANT will become the founder of an extremely successful bath mat company named Stumble Co. Ltd. It seems that they have already set up this company as I was pleasantly surprised on Friday night when a complimentary card and lemon thing came through the letter box. Here's the photo evidence:
How lovely!

Until next week, have a good one ;)

What's App-ening Wednesday? #2: Top Girl

Welcome! Today we have a fabulous review by our dear friend ANT on the app 'Top Girl'.
http://www.crowdstar.com/games/top_girl

ANT on 'Top Girl':
I've had this game ever since Wadz introduced it to me some time ago and I have to say, it is literally the definition of the phrase 'so bad its good'. Although the materialistic nature of this game disgusts me on a daily basis, it’s always entertaining to read the horrifically bad pick up lines, and it's also a relief to know that whenever life gets tough, my virtual boyfriend Darrell (the hopeless romantic) will always love me...

...at least until I’ve sponged all of the available gifts from him and dumped him anyway.

Quote Week for Wicks: Day 7

Weekly News Round-Up #33: 15/09/2013

Yo, wassup diggy dawgz?! Hope you've all had a smashing week, I know I have. Let's recount some of the most memorable moments...

First off, Wicks has managed to rename the Maths course that ConscienceSarah and Master are taking. It is now called 'Too Much Maths'. Here's how one would use it in conversation:
"What lesson do you have next?"
"I've got Too Much Maths."

I think it has to be said that it's been a rather wasp-y week. We've all been on high alert at lunchtimes to make sure no insects come near us. According to Wicks, the reason for the abundance of wasps is because the wasp population is currently at an all time high. We then commented on the fact that our conversation seemed to turn into a report on some sort of wasp stock exchange.

Wednesday was a day for walking. After lunch, the whole year went on a leisurely walk around the park as part of our enrichment activity this week. This provided an opportunity to discuss many a topic...
  • Topic 1: Most inconvenient enrichment activities
From now on, we all have to do an enrichment activity on a Wednesday afternoon. There are plenty of options such as sports, art, debate clubs, etc. or you can even create your own if none of those take your fancy. However, ANT devised an intelligent plan to avoid doing enrichment. The idea was that we should start a club for extremely inconvenient activities, where they can only be done under particular conditions. Some examples that we came up with were kite-flying (if we don't have the right amount of wind, then we can't do it) and white water rafting (the tide has to be just right).
  • Topic 2: The Last Airbender
Much of our time was spent with Wicks recounting the series 'The Last Airbender'. Let me tell you now, there's some good plot twists in there...
  • Topic 3: Decomposition
With the light always comes the dark. With that being said, ANT decided to add the dark into our nice afternoon trek. We joked that we would be given a tour of the park. Master first said, 'And here we have a blade of grass...', but ANT decided to take it one step further and proceeded to say, 'Here, on your right, we have a dead, decomposing squirrel, but it won't be there for long because the vultures will be out at dusk.' (Please note that there was no dead squirrel or any vultures.) Eventually the conversation morphed into a rather sick, twisted dream about a decomposing squirrel being attacked by noodles and vultures with Warwick Davis' head... (I cannot seem to recall how the conversation took such a turn.)

In other lunchtime news, Master has been having salad every day. We've started researching into what we'll call 'Salad Theorem', where we should eventually be able to predict how much salad is eaten after a certain amount of time. The end result is that the clear container, which holds the salad, shall have, marked on the side, certain times where the salad reaches a certain point on the side of the container. Here is the concept art:
We're currently in very early stages, but we'll make sure to keep you updated on our progress.

Later on in the week, the unexpected happened. Master was in a Business lesson and the opportunity to write the words 'promotion prospects' arose! Here's the photo evidence:

As a follow up to the wasp talk earlier in the week, we were all about spider talk on Friday. ANT kindly shared with us her story about Wilson, a spider who was in her room for a number of days.

In that same lunchtime, Master acquired some app homework from ANT, which was to play 'Cut the Rope', 'Tiny Tower' and 'Top Girl'. And this, ladies and gentlemen, was the inspiration for our new Wednesday segment, 'What's App-ening Wednesday?' Tune in for an app review every week!

Until next week, have a good one ;)

Quote Week for Wicks: Day 5

"...or a small bear? You know, I don't even know why I say things like that."
A.T.

Story behind quote:
On the way back home, Master and ANT spot a rabbit. Master states the obvious and says, 'Oh, it's a rabbit!' However ANT's reply is much more amusing.

Thursday 19 September 2013

Quote Week for Wicks: Day 4

"Does it make a significant sound?"
- A.T.

Story behind quote:
As we marvel at how incredible Wicks' guinea pigs are, ANT decides to ask what sound they make. When questioned about what counted as a significant sound, ANT decided not to provide information on the number of decibels required and instead gave an example, such as the bark of a dog.

What's App-ening Wednesday? #1: Cut the Rope

Welcome, everyone, to the first ever edition of 'What's App-ening Wednesday?'
This week, we're talking about the popular game 'Cut the Rope'!

The official website: http://www.cuttherope.ie/

Now, I only started playing this a few days ago, but I must say that it is a lot of fun. It's great because you have to think before you act, but sometimes if you also need the element of speed.

I find that some levels are a great challenge for me, personally, but when you get past them there's such a sense of satisfaction. There's times when I try my hardest to get all the stars, but other times when you just want to get to the next level ;p

Overall, 5/5 from me! :)

Quote Week for Wicks: Day 3

"They're not my favourite Cheese Favourites!"
- H.W.

'Cheese Favourites' (cheesy biscuit snacks) come in a variety of shapes to ensure that at least one shape is your favourite. Here, Wicks picked up the wrong shape.

A Quote Week because Wicks just can't wait!

That's right, we're having a Quote Week starting tomorrow purely because Wicks couldn't wait for next month! Enjoy it while it lasts ;)

Weekly News Round-Up #32: 08/09/2013

Hello, hello, hello! Well, it feels like a year since the last time we've been here! But seriously, have I got news for you, this is the grand return of Weekly News Round-Up! I hope you've missed us and are excited for the following crazy awesome weeks! Let's begin...

First up, what happened on Monday? Well, ArwaChihuahua, ANT, Ruby, Wicks and Master were out in town for a little meet-up. It was a very exciting day as it was the first time they'd been together since the end of the previous academic year. I must say that it was an incredibly fun day, but also one where we got down to business. Indeed, we had the first mug of the season (yes, now there are mugging seasons), where Master stole ANT's seat *dramatic music*.
We must also confess that we made a few plans on which bench to go for when we return to school (which we did on Thursday). Read on to find out what actually happened.

Tuesday was a day where the weather was lovely, so DisneyLoverMolly, ConscienceSarah and Master decided it would be nice to go shopping. To be more precise, the trio were stuck in a particular shop for the best part of 2 hours, with ConscienceSarah staying in the same fitting room, DisneyLoverMolly finding clothes, and Master pursuing the career of a cloak stand, essentially. All in all, it was a lot of good fun and it was just wonderful to see them again.

What an exciting day Wednesday was. They like to call it enrolment day, but really, my experiences suggest it to be just a day of waiting. And from what I hear, Wicks will most likely agree with me. It was relatively interesting when we all had to do an IQ test, which consisted of seemingly endless questions on dice, patterns, and random words that are uncommonly used. Good times.

After enrolment day, we had our first full day of school, where no one was completely sure what time we were meant to be there for. Thankfully, most people were early instead of late.
So, the moment you've been waiting for, where did we sit? Well, at breaktime, ANT insisted that we should sit on the only bench in the shade (of course, ANT is still not particularly keen on anything sun or heat-related. Some things just stay the same). However, come lunchtime, a problem arose when another group were sat at the shaded table. But fear not as it was resolved when they decided to move. Of course, we siezed the opportunity and speedily moved to claim the space as ours. The real problem was that the table was infested with lots of small spiders. There was a certain moment when ANT had an open packet of crisps and a spider in her hair. She gets the spider out, but is unsure where it went, making ANT question, 'ugh, has it gone into my crisps?'

After lunch, we had our first assembly of the new academic year. This year, the principal has made it crystal clear that we want MORE. In true school style, the word was made into an acrostic, standing for motivation, opportunity, resilience and excellence (or something along those lines). With this great acrostic came a less fabulous PowerPoint. Remember the presentations from last year, hellyeah they were awesome! But this time it was excessively complex, with an animation at every turn and videos that we didn't have time to watch.

Friday brought us to the end of an interesting week. Overall, I must say that we've met some lovely people and I personally can't wait to go back tomorrow.

Until next week, have a good one :)

What's happening on Wednesday? A new segment!

Hello peeps!

I have some very exciting news for you all today!
When talking about apps yesterday lunchtime, the idea for a new blog segment was born...'What's App-ening Wednesday?'
The concept is that every Wednesday, we will post a review on a certain app. Simples!

Hope you'll join us ;)

Sunday 8 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 7

"We should set up a campfire and tents..."
- H.W.

Story behind quote:
Wicks takes the lead in plotting to annoy the surveyors.

Saturday 7 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 6

"The mothership...!"
- H.W.

Story behind quote:
And the conspiracies of the surveyors and their equipment just goes on...

Friday 6 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 5

"We all know where this is going...the child will be crying, or it'll have destroyed the equipment."
- A.T.

Story behind quote:
Remember from the previous quotes this week about the surveyors, their equipment, and the group of kids? We'll you guessed it, all those events happened on the same day, in fact all the quotes this week are from one particular picnic outing.
Well, one of the kids decided to venture near the equipment, so ANT decided to to vocalise her prediction of how the situation would play out. Thankfully, none of the events, that she predicted, happened ;p
Nice try, ANT mate! *clapping*

Thursday 5 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 4

"She's obviously drawn the short straw, has to run around with all the kids..."
- A.T.

Story behind quote:
At the park, a group of young children seem to be having a day out. There is one teacher in particular who runs around with all the kids. Here, ANT verbally expresses her thoughts on the situation.

Wednesday 4 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 3

"Who seriously works out in a park gym?!"
- A.T.

Story behind quote:
There's a nice little fitness area in our local park, however ANT seems skeptical that anyone would ever do a serious work-out there...

Tuesday 3 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 2

"Picnic-ers...the bane of the surveyors!"
- H.W.

Story behind quote:
ArwaChihuahua, ANT, Ruby, Wicks and Master were having a picnic in the park. However, there was an awful load of technical equipment that looked to belong to surveyors. And it also happened that the equipment was set up around the group, who were picnic-ing. We assumed that we were in the way of the surveyors, hence Wicks came up with this general conclusion about what surveyors have to put up with.

Monday 2 September 2013

Quote Week: September - Day 1

"Blandest of the business!"
- H.W.

Story behind quote:
'Party Rings' claim to have no flavourings. This lead Wicks to the above conclusion...
