Wicks' Week of Quotes - Day 7

"Your presence is a present in itself!"

A clear example of Wicks' generosity and good spirit.

Weekly News Round-Up #48: 19/01/2014

Hello everyone! Hope this week's been good to y'all :) To be fair, it's been a pretty quiet week where not much has really happened. But still, here's a few things that did happen...

To kick off the week, Wicks came in sporting a truly fantastic 'A Game of Thrones' inspired hair style. ConscienceSarah was actually so impressed that she felt she had to show the WelSHEEP...

Fast-forwarding to the middle of the week, we had a fantastic time at Creative Writing Club. I'm gonna stop here because I don't want to steal ConscienceSarah's thunder, so you'll just have to wait and read her report on the matter ;)

Wicks also alerted me on that same evening that this blog has reached 22,000 views! It really came as a bit of a surprise, of course, a surprise of the best kind. I just wanna take this opportunity to thank you for reading. I really hope you enjoy it because it's just so much fun to write :)

Thursday lunchtime was a relatively eventful one including plenty of bottles and singing.
In one particular instance, The Appalling One managed to slide Alexis' bottle of J2O across the table and, unexpectedly, knock over Triangle's Coca-Cola, which landed dangerously close to his lunch.
Soon afterwards, George had accidentally shook up his unopened bottle of Coca-Cola. Much caution was taken when he went to open it, taking care to make it a controlled explosion.
Somehow, a few minutes afterwards, Wicks, ANT and Master started singing Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. It just so happened that Triangle was sitting on the other side of the singing trio, therefore away from everyone else. It must be noted that he was not the most enthusiastic about joining in and every now and again, when he thought no one was watching, he would shake his head in disappointment... Oh dear.

On that same afternoon, when ArwaChihuahua, ANT and Master were walking home, they had a pretty good laugh at a boy who was walking across mud, slipping and sliding about (because it had been raining) but never truly falling. ANT brilliantly described it as 'living life on the edge' ;p
Promptly afterwards, we also encountered a particular individual who was, as ANT called it, 'power-biking'. It was incredible. He was going so fast and I turned around just as he rode up the curb and pretty much flew into mid-air, only to land just a second later. Wow.

Much happened on Friday lunchtime...
ConscienceSarah came to the conclusion that DisneyLoverMolly sneezes and screams like a man.
As payback for such a ridiculous claim, DisneyLoverMolly, Wicks and Master dedicated a portion of their time to stealing ConscienceSarah's chips.
Afterwards, DLM shared a pack of Starbursts. Wicks took the opportunity to cunningly re-shape the wrapper to make it seem as though there was a sweet inside. The best part was when a few peeps fell for the prank ;p
The discussion was held by DisneyLoverMolly, who interviewed us all on our favourite Disney characters. At one point, ConscienceSarah was arguing with DLM, and therefore interrupting Cap. At this point, Master, uncharacteristically, flipped and said firmly 'would you just stop shouting in ma ear??!' Surprisingly, Wicks seemed to find this utterly hilarious...

To end a pretty decent week, ANT started hiccupping rather loudly on the way home. I think it's fair to say that she was rather annoyed at the way it enhanced her laughter.

Until next week, have a good one ;)

Weekly News Round-Up #47: 12/01/2014

Wassup everyone? Welcome back to another year of Weekly News Round-Ups! We all arrived back at the Academy in high spirits after the holidays and it was a pretty interesting week...

On Monday, Alexis decided that he would put aside his role as a guidance counsellor and instead his main title is now 'YouTube specialist'. To anyone that is concerned, he will still be guiding people, but only as a part-time job.

Speaking of job titles, we've just written up a page of profiles for the whole team, which you can find by clicking here. There's updated bio's which people haven't really complained about yet. I'm proud of us for managing to write ANT's description without mentioning salt at all.

That same afternoon, we had another incredibly productive board meeting. Wicks and Master were joined by Alexis, who offered some great ideas on how to improve our chair-spinning techniques. Additionally, we brought up some relevant issues with the Podcaast, which are currently being solved.

Tuesday saw ANT showing DisneyLoverMolly and Master the Scribblenaughts app. In all honesty, they weren't totally impressed by what is the only app that ANT has ever paid for. What made it even worse was that there was a glitch that meant it would reset the levels every now and then, so it would be impossible to progress effectively. What is most interesting is that ANT still finds the app worthwhile...perhaps she can justify this by writing us a review...?

The new year has also proved to be revolutionary for the Academy's canteen. At lunchtime, we noticed the brand new long-boat baguette design, which meant that they cut off the ends of the baguette and put them at both ends of the filling.

Wednesday was the day that we called an impromptu board meeting and decided we needed to design an office environment for the team to work in. The attendance levels were outstainding by our terms as we had the majority of the team, apart from ANT, present. There were many discussions as to what the sort of items we needed and we sketched out a few layout ideas. Later on, we decided to design our own offices and then have a grand reveal sometime next week. Please note that this office space does not exist currently. We just have big imaginations.

On Thursday, quite a few things went on. Lunchtime consisted of Triangle not having any money, George revealing his fear of libaraies (?), and The Appalling One taunting Alexis about having #5likes...
Later that evening, we also did some recording for the Podcaast. We won't say too much about it, but it ended with Wicks and Master going through some old photos and identifying a few of them to be suitable for toothpaste (tuthpaste) adverts.

Friday was a day of true excitement for everyone. DisneyLoverMolly was thrilled when lunchtime rolled in, as she had Doritos with a range of dips. Meanwhile, ConscienceSarah's pastie wasn't really to anyone's liking. ANT expressed a strong dislike at the aesthetic aspects of the filling. Speaking of ANT, she managed to lose her sachet of salt in between walking from the canteen to the cafeteria. The best part was when we were walking back home, she suddenly exclaims 'Oh my goodness' and explains that the salt sachet had been in her pocket the whole time! #classic

That evening, we went to the Academy's unplugged music show. Overall, we had a fantastic evening, with ANT being especially impressed and vowing to attend all the upcoming concerts! Even though the majority of the acts were fantastic, some could still improve. One particular borderline poor performance had the Principal yawning, ANT sighing, and Master having a hard time keeping down the laughs. All in all, what a great evening...roll on the next one!

Until next week, have a good one ;)

The first Quote Week of 2014...

...January Quote Week starts tomorrow!

New Year's Eve 2013 - Dragonology

Hello peeps! Just wanted to wish y'all a happy new year! I hope that 2014 is another year of joy for you :)
Today, I thought I'd share with you how Wicks, ArwaChihuahua and Master spent New Year's Eve. It involved a lengthy game of Dragonology and a few interesting card games.

So, it started when Wicks invited us all round, however, the only two people free were ArwaChihuahua and Master. They were on board for an afternoon of classic board games.

It must be noted that Wicks had an incredible range of games, everything from the 'Horrible Histories' board game to Monopoly (the Millionaire version, where you're considered poor if you've only got 2 million in the virtual bank). In the end, we settled for the most exciting-looking game, Dragonology, based on the popular book.

The aim of the game was easy enough to get to grips with. Players must roll the 12-sided dice and move around the board, collecting 'Bits of Knowledge' or Transportation cards. These will aid the player to collecting dragons. Once a player has 3 dragons, they must make their way to the 'Dragon's Eye' in order to secure a victory.
Even though the rules of the game were simple enough, there were different types of 'Knowledge' cards that baffled Master to no end.One type of card that Master queried about the most was the 'Snatch' card, which involved something along the lines of asking anothe player for a specific card (?)

One of the best aspects of the game was that all the figurines were so brilliantly crafted, apart from this one particular dragon that seemed to have one of its wings stuck on the wrong way round. There was also much fun to be had by attaching multiple figures together or placing them in certain situations.

We managed to keep the game going for around 3 hours and I think it's fair to say that we were all a little tired of the game by the final hour. The situation was that ArwaChihuahua had a bunch of Steamboat Transport cards, however she was unable to use them due to the fact that she was often on land. Meanwhile, Master had an abundance of 'Shield' cards, which was mildly irritating. Not to mention, the remainder of the 'Knowledge' cards were 'Déjà vu' cards, which gave you an extra go. Apart from that, there were a few 'Swoop' (we like to pronoune it as 'shwoop') cards as well, which made it just that bit more entertaining.

In the end, everyone pulled together to try and get Master to the 'Dragon's Eye' because we just all wanted it to end. So, there we have it! Dragon Man Dan (Master's character) won! It was a special occasion as it is currently the only time when Wicks has not won the game.

After that draining game, we decided to play cards. In Wicks' card swap game, no tactics were required and it was purely down to luck. This was a refreshing and most welcome change.
Then we had a few games of 'Snap', a game that ArwaChihuahua is well-practised at. Whilst Wicks and ArwaChihuahua excelled at this game of speed, Master's overall number of wins was truly pitiful.

All in all, we had a fun time! Hopefully we can have another games session with the rest of the team sometime soon :)
