Greetings, fellow gerbils!
Hey there, it's Gerry here! As you may have gathered, I am a gerbil and this is a blog about my life on this planet. I appear to humans through a machine called the GerbilMaestro, which is an exact copy of my master. I control this machine and most of the time pretend to be my master in front of other humans.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Thanks a gerbillion!

New Year's Eve 2013 - Dragonology

Hello peeps! Just wanted to wish y'all a happy new year! I hope that 2014 is another year of joy for you :)
Today, I thought I'd share with you how Wicks, ArwaChihuahua and Master spent New Year's Eve. It involved a lengthy game of Dragonology and a few interesting card games.

So, it started when Wicks invited us all round, however, the only two people free were ArwaChihuahua and Master. They were on board for an afternoon of classic board games.

It must be noted that Wicks had an incredible range of games, everything from the 'Horrible Histories' board game to Monopoly (the Millionaire version, where you're considered poor if you've only got 2 million in the virtual bank). In the end, we settled for the most exciting-looking game, Dragonology, based on the popular book.

The aim of the game was easy enough to get to grips with. Players must roll the 12-sided dice and move around the board, collecting 'Bits of Knowledge' or Transportation cards. These will aid the player to collecting dragons. Once a player has 3 dragons, they must make their way to the 'Dragon's Eye' in order to secure a victory.
Even though the rules of the game were simple enough, there were different types of 'Knowledge' cards that baffled Master to no end.One type of card that Master queried about the most was the 'Snatch' card, which involved something along the lines of asking anothe player for a specific card (?)

One of the best aspects of the game was that all the figurines were so brilliantly crafted, apart from this one particular dragon that seemed to have one of its wings stuck on the wrong way round. There was also much fun to be had by attaching multiple figures together or placing them in certain situations.

We managed to keep the game going for around 3 hours and I think it's fair to say that we were all a little tired of the game by the final hour. The situation was that ArwaChihuahua had a bunch of Steamboat Transport cards, however she was unable to use them due to the fact that she was often on land. Meanwhile, Master had an abundance of 'Shield' cards, which was mildly irritating. Not to mention, the remainder of the 'Knowledge' cards were 'Déjà vu' cards, which gave you an extra go. Apart from that, there were a few 'Swoop' (we like to pronoune it as 'shwoop') cards as well, which made it just that bit more entertaining.

In the end, everyone pulled together to try and get Master to the 'Dragon's Eye' because we just all wanted it to end. So, there we have it! Dragon Man Dan (Master's character) won! It was a special occasion as it is currently the only time when Wicks has not won the game.

After that draining game, we decided to play cards. In Wicks' card swap game, no tactics were required and it was purely down to luck. This was a refreshing and most welcome change.
Then we had a few games of 'Snap', a game that ArwaChihuahua is well-practised at. Whilst Wicks and ArwaChihuahua excelled at this game of speed, Master's overall number of wins was truly pitiful.

All in all, we had a fun time! Hopefully we can have another games session with the rest of the team sometime soon :)
